#1 CHOOSE TOPICS PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN

The first thing is just to make videos about the topics that people are actually interested in. So before going to make a video first looks around to see what topics people are actually interested in and then make a video about one of those topics.

We don't have to guess about what will be successful. The data is there. We can go and look at other people's channels to see what's already been successful. We can use keyword research tools to do this research. Most of this is completely free and it can have a big impact on your videos.

#2 DESIGN CLICK-WORTHY THUMBNAILS

The second thing you need to do is to design a click worthy thumbnail. Before someone decides to watch a video, they don't have very much information about it. They only have the title and the little thumbnail picture. So you need to make sure that you design a click worthy thumbnail, a thumbnail that will actually attract people's attention and intrigued them to click.

This can be done in two different ways. One way is to provoke their curiosity by making something strange in the thumbnail. And the other way is to make thumbnail so attractive that people want to click.

#3 KEEP VIEWERS ENGAGED AND INTERESTED

The third thing you can do to get more views ties in with those click worthy thumbnails is actually the content of your video. To make more people keep watching your videos for longer is to make the videos as interesting and engaging as possible.

You want to have plenty of interrupts in your video so that people aren't bored when they're watching. They don't get distracted by all those tempting suggested videos over there in the side column. And the reason why this is going to help you get more viewers is because when YouTube sees that people are interested in your video and that they're staying on it for longer than that they're going to recommend that video to more and more people and that's exactly what you want.

#4 POLL YOUR AUDIENCE BEFORE CHOOSING A TOPIC

The next thing you can do to get more views is to poll your audience before you make a video. It gives you the information about what topic people actually want to watch the videos on. If you don't have many subscribers you won't be able to poll them on YouTube but you might be able to poll them on a different platforms if the same people are following you on multiple platforms until you’ll have that feature available on YouTube. And another way that you can do is just by saying in your videos which of these two videos do you want to see next by comment down below or you can sometimes use up in the corner a card that has a poll in it so those are the options for how you can poll your audience to find out what videos they actually want to watch.

#5 GET FEATURED IN MEDIA

Another way that you can get more views is to get featured in the media and at first this might seem practically impossible especially if you have a small channel. Here's the fact of the matter. The people who make the news and are publishing news on the media they need stories. And, if you can hand them a story that is in fact interesting then they will say thank you and they will want to share it. Now of course the story has to be interesting and has to actually be news it can't just be a new video on my channel. But if you can make a story out of your video then you can get some free exposure in the media.

#6 MAKE GUEST APPEARANCES

Another way that you can get more views on YouTube is to get featured on other people's channels or even on podcasts or blogs. So a lot of the time this is called doing collaboration with another channel and it might be you and another creator making a video together but you also might go on their channel or go on their show as a guest. There are all sorts of fun ways that you can do this or you can keep it super simple. But the fact of the matter is that if you can get in front of someone else’s subscribers or followers then that is going to give you more exposure for your channel you're going to be introduced to more people.

And so if you make a good first impression then they will discover your channel and they'll be interested in finding out more about it and possibly coming and watching your videos.

#7 DON’T WASTE YOUR ENERGY

OK. Now the seventh way that you can get more views on YouTube is actually something that you need to stop doing. Don’t spend a lot of time promoting your videos on Instagram or Twitter or Facebook or any other social media platforms. This may give you a handful of viewers but you will waste a lot of your time and energy. YouTube has an incredibly powerful algorithm that matches up viewers with videos that those viewers want to watch. So instead of wasting time on promoting your videos on other platforms make your YouTube videos interesting and engaging so that people will watch your video for a longer and YouTube itself will recommend other viewers to watch your video.

And yes, if you are just first starting out and you want to and need to tell everyone who you possibly can about your channel then yes do it. But once you get that first little bit of traction and it starts to grow and you start to see that YouTube is recommending your videos and you are getting views that you aren't driving yourself then take that time on reinvest it into making better videos.
